Stertil-Koni Bears the Cold for Company’s 10th Annual Polar Plunge

02/18/2026

On a balmy 24-degree afternoon on January 30, a group of fearless Stertil-Koni team members packed up early from work, grabbed their special hot pink branded gear, and hit the road for the short trip across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge for their (Stertil-Koni’s)10th Annual Polar Bear Plunge, benefiting Special Olympics Maryland.

Team Stertil-Koni at Maryland's Polar Bear Plunge

Even with large amounts of snow and ice still lingering from an impressive winter storm the prior weekend, the group saw its largest participation rate to date, with 22 Stertil-Koni team members and family/friends ready to “Bear the Cold” and jump (or wade) into the frigid Chesapeake Bay at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, Maryland.

Part of Maryland’s history, the Polar Bear Plunge is an annual winter tradition that began in 1997 at Sandy Point State Park as a fundraiser for Special Olympics Maryland, where brave plungers take on the icy waters of the Chesapeake Bay. By taking the plunge, participants help to provide year-round sports and leadership programs for 25,000 athletes. Learn more about the Maryland Polar Bear Plunge here.

Lead by Stertil-Koni Warehouse Manager, Rich Weinreich, the team was able to raise $2,450 for Special Olympics Maryland this year. Joining Rich for the frigid festivities were Stertil-Koni team members Ryan Allen, Robyn Collier, Amelia Cox, Jackie Cullison, Kate Edwards, Emmaleigh Gibbs, Doug Frakes, Tim Kerr, Tammy Mitchell, Mike Nichols, Emmi Patti, Helena Robinson, Julie Thomas, along with friends and family.

Thank you to our brave plungers, and we’re looking forward to next year!
