Stertil-Koni employees, their friends, and families are currently gathering the courage to jump in the icy Chesapeake Bay at Sandy Point State Park in Maryland.
Why may you ask? To raise funds for Special Olympians at the 2018 Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge on January 26, during the corporate portion of the 22nd annual event.
And of course, bragging rights for the entire year coinciding with the opportunity to goad non-plunging co-workers about being “wimps.”
Heading the intrepid Stertil-Koni team will be four-time Polar Bear Plunger and Stertil-Koni Director of Operations, Kevin Hymers, who noted: “This month we will take on the frosty waters of the Chesapeake Bay and plunge for the 7,549 athletes of Special Olympics of Maryland. Our sponsors and their donations will not only inspire us to jump into the 34 degree Chesapeake Bay but will also help allow the Special Olympics of Maryland to continue to offer sports competition and training to athletes around the state – at no cost. It’s all part of an effort to help create a world in which opportunity is not limited.”
The event is a big one. Every year in late January more than 10,000 brave plungers journey to Sandy Point State Park, at the foot of the beautiful Chesapeake Bay Bridge, in the spirit of giving back.
Following Hymers’ into the frigid waters of the Chesapeake Bay are Jean DellAmore, Dave Ziegler, Angela Boncz, Rich Weinreich, Robyn Collier, Nick Narvesen, Jacob Rosendale, Michael Nichols, Nathan Wright, Marie Jackson and Jill Kubatko.
Donations are accepted for the MSP Polar Bear Plunge through February 26, 2018.
