They say “behind the success of every small business, there is a family.” D.L. Carr Distributors, an exclusive provider of Stertil-Koni lifting systems in New York State, fits the narrative to a T.
Ed Carr, 85, owner of D.L. Carr Distributors in Syosset, NY, works side-by-side with his son Michael, one of his six children. Together, their family talents make D.L. Carr one of the most successful family-owned distributors in the heavy duty vehicle lifting industry.
For D.L. Carr, the duo’s skills and education complement each other, making for a thriving venture.
Prior to joining the Stertil-Koni family, “Pop,” a hydraulics engineer worked in that field for most of his life. Over a span of 25-years Ed was a contractor for some of the country’s most exciting aerospace projects, developing components and systems for the engine that brought Apollo astronauts back home from the moon. He also contributed his engineering skills to the F-14 Tomcat fighter plane, showcased in the popular flick “Top Gun.”
Michael has been at D.L. Carr for six years and has a bachelor’s degree in economics with a minor in business management from Fairfield University in Connecticut. Before joining his father, he worked in the environmental services field, including oil spill response. “I run the business and finances,” says Michael. “I’m the inside guy,” he joked.
Michael Sr. spends his off hours coaching his son Michael Jr., age 9, in Little League baseball and taking in New York Yankee ball games.
D.L. Carr has served its customers for 18 years, exclusively providing Stertil-Koni heavy-duty lifts. The elder Carr said they sell about 50/50 of mobile lifts and inground ECO lifts, platforms lifts, and, the very popular inground piston DIAMONDLIFT.
For Stertil-Koni, D.L. Carr Distributors is truly an extension of our core family.
